Playing at home against Liechtenstein, Portugal easily dominated the match and quickly took the lead with a goal in the 8th minute by Cancelo, who scored a shot from 20 meters out to put the team coached by Roberto Martinez ahead.
The representative from Southern Europe continued to completely dominate and create numerous chances, but the first half ended with only a 1-0 scoreline. Cristiano Ronaldo played hard but didn’t leave much of an impact.
In the second half, Portugal pushed forward with continuous attacks. In the 47th minute, Bernardo Silva extended the lead to 2-0 for Portugal after taking advantage of a poorly cleared ball by Liechtenstein’s defender.
Four minutes later, Portugal was awarded a penalty due to a mistake by Liechtenstein’s defender. Ronaldo stepped up to take the penalty and didn’t make any mistakes, increasing the scoreline to 3-0.
In the 63rd minute, Ronaldo completed his brace with a very strong free-kick shot that went straight to the position of goalkeeper Buchel and slowly went into the net.
The match ended with a scoreline of 4-0 in favor of Portugal. Roberto Martinez’s team temporarily took the top spot in Group J of the Euro 2024 qualifiers. In some other matches in the group, Bosnia & Herzegovina defeated Iceland 3-0 while Slovakia drew 0-0 with Luxembourg.
